Follow one garment
( Worked example · Spain hub )
01Scenario
A silk occasion dress comes back to a Barcelona store with its hem label lost in transit and a make-up mark at the neckline.
02Problem
It cannot go back on sale as it is. Shipping it to a central warehouse in another country adds transport cost and time before it can sell again.
03Solution
Opera grades it at the Spanish hub, wet cleans it, relabels it to your specification and checks it against your threshold. It goes back into Spanish stock.
04Proof
Each step is logged in the garment record: condition, treatment, QC result and destination. Your Box Test report shows the same data for a batch of your own SKUs.
The six steps
What happens, what your team does, and the data you get back.
- 01
Box Test & business case
Three weeks
We begin with a Box Test using a small selection of your current stock. From this sample, we clean, grade, recover the garments and gather data to build a detailed business case showing the real financial impact of the service for your brand.
Your team
Chooses up to 20 garments and names the channels they should go back to.
Data you receive
- Uplift by SKU and category
- Recovery value
- ROI
- 02
Pickup & grading
Weekly
After the test results, we move into action. We collect your garments from a central point in your facility, then carry out an initial inspection, cataloguing and detailed sorting based on condition and treatment needs.
Your team
Sets quality thresholds once. Prepares the weekly collection.
Data you receive
- Condition grade
- Defect type
- 03
Cleaning & reconditioning
Per garment
Wet cleaning using certified processes. Minor repairs, stain removal and fabric restoration to meet your brand standards, carried out in the market where the garment sold.
Your team
Approves repair rules at the start.
Data you receive
- Treatment log
- 04
Quality check & preparation
Per garment
Professional assessment categorises each item. Garments are packaged, labelled and ready for your chosen sales channel: first-hand stock, outlet or resale platform.
Your team
Defines finishing and packing specification.
Data you receive
- QC result
- Reason code

Return your stock wherever you need
Per delivery
We deliver your garments wherever you need them to be sold. It doesn’t have to be the same place where we collect them. Our logistics adapt to your operations so your stock returns where it adds the most value.

Performance & data analysis
Per period
Constant review to optimise and refine decisions and outcomes. Detailed reporting gives full transparency on garment condition and value.

( Assess · Route · Recover · Resell )
The decision framework
Maximising value recovery requires an operational model built around informed, item-level decisions.
01 Assess
We collect your garments from a central point in your facility, then carry out an initial inspection, cataloguing and detailed sorting based on condition and treatment needs.
- Condition
- What is actually wrong?
- Recoverability
- Can it be restored?
Recorded
- Condition grade
- Defect type
02 Route
Every garment is assessed individually. A piece that needs steaming and finishing sits alongside one that needs cleaning, one that needs a repair, and one that cannot be recovered at all. Your thresholds decide where each grade goes.
- Economics
- Is it worth doing?
- Treatment process
- Where should it go?
Recorded
- Grade
- Reason code
03 Recover
Wet cleaning using certified processes. Minor repairs, stain removal and fabric restoration to meet your brand standards, carried out in the market where the garment sold.
Recorded
- Treatment log
- QC result
04 Resell
We deliver your garments wherever you need them to be sold: first-hand stock, outlet or resale platform. It doesn’t have to be the same place where we collect them.

- Date
- Evidence
- What happened to it? Decision and state tracking, under every stage.
( Condition grades )
Your thresholds decide where each grade goes.
Every garment is assessed individually. A piece that needs steaming and finishing sits alongside one that needs cleaning, one that needs a repair, and one that cannot be recovered at all.
- ACLEAN ONLY
Wet clean and press. Back to full-price stock.
- BCLEAN & FINISH
Wet clean, spot treatment, finishing.
- EXAMPLE THRESHOLD · FULL-PRICE STOCK ABOVE THIS LINE
- CREPAIR
Seam, hem, trim or label repair, then clean and finish.
- DBELOW THRESHOLD
Not returned to sale. Routed as your brand instructs.
Grade names are illustrative and set per brand. Not every garment can be returned to a saleable condition: some marks will not lift, and a repair that is technically possible can cost more than the piece is worth. Those pieces are named in the report.
( Where Opera sits )
Returns processing and garment recovery are different jobs
Opera works alongside whatever you already use to handle returns, so nothing needs replacing. Opera does not take ownership of recovered garments or decide where they are sold.
Upstream
Returns processing
Whoever handles returns for you records it, deals with the refund or exchange, checks the garment and puts saleable pieces back into stock. Damaged or marked items are separated out.
Opera
Garment recovery
Recovery begins with the garments that do not pass that first check but may still be commercially useful. Opera assesses the work needed and reconditions the stock that can be brought back.
Downstream
Your sales channels
The stock belongs to you, and can go to standard stock, an outlet, a resale channel, a sample or archive sale, or any other route you choose.
( Operational FAQ )
Before you start
What kind of stock can I send?
Presale, pre-owned, returned or overstock garments that are soiled or stained but otherwise meet your brand’s quality standards. You do not need to sort them; every garment is assessed individually.
What volume can I send, and how often?
There is no minimum order. Garments are collected weekly from one central location in your facility.
What happens after the 90-day pilot?
You receive a full performance report with resale insights, recovery value, operational learnings and ROI. Then we explore a longer-term programme based on your objectives. There is no obligation to continue unless you choose to.
How long are Opera contracts?
We usually start with a short pilot, not a long-term commitment. A standard pilot runs for around 90 days from the moment we receive your first box. After that, ongoing agreements are tailored to your volumes and needs.
In which countries is Opera available?
Opera currently runs pilots with brands in Europe, using our main cleaning and logistics hubs in the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. If you are based in another region, get in touch and we will assess feasibility case by case.
